The Mini 25 Register is for all Mini 25s that are still on the road in their original (or near original) form. The Austin Rover Mini 25 Special Edition was built to Celebrate 25 Years of Mini Production; the Silver Anniversary of the Mini. Every Mini 25 was painted Silver because of the Silver Anniversary with mini 25 decals along each side and across the boot.

It was built around a Mk IV Saloon with 998A+ Engine, a high ratio 4 speed gear box and has 12 inch Wheels with Disk Brakes. Only 3511 Mini 25s were built for the UK. The Mini 25 interior has Grey Velor seats with Map Pockets and Red Piping. The two Front Seats have a Mini 25 Decal. The Steering Wheel and Seat Belts are also red to match the detail on the seats.

The entries on this web page are collated from Mini 25s that are put up for sale on e-bay aswell as from e-mails received by the web-master from current owners of Mini 25s. To enter your Mini 25 on this web-site please e-mail a photo and details of your car to rob@mini25.com. Please include details of the general condition of your car, it's modifications and any special stories you have about the car.

Each Mini 25 entered on this register has to be close to original condition. The basic entry rules are that the car has to resemble the original Mini 25.

August 2007

Details:

Tom and Jon bought this Mini 25 when they were 14 for £25 - what a bargain!!

Here's what Tom and Jon wrote in their e-mail:

Hi, our names are Tom and Jon, we are 17 years old, and heres our mini 25 that we bought when we were 14. Jon saved the 25 from the crusher one saturday morning, when he was doing his paper round. He knocked on the owners door, and asked him if he had any plans for the mini, and if not, how much would to take for it... 'You'll never get that thing on the road, its rottern, The scrap yard garge is picking it up today, its taking up un-wanted space.' was the answer we got. Jon quickly finished his paper round, and collected his weekly pay. He rushed back up to the house, where the mini was, and offered the owner £25... The Mini was ours!

3 Years later, and a lot of hard work, heres the finished product. I could of modified it, but i thought it was best to keep her origianal. The car got worked on everyday after school, and all our money went into it. Luckily, Tom had a saturday job, and became an apprentice at a local garge, and all the mechanics offered their help... The 25 wouldnt look tlike this today if it wasnt for them.

At one stage, it was a bare shell, without sub-frames. We replaced the front subframe with a new one, and sourced a good condition rear. Then the body work began. As always, it was a lot worse than it looked. Luckily, Tom was allowed to borrow the welder from work most week-ends... In the end, we ended up replacing- Front Panel, 2 Wings, 2 A-Panels Bonnet, Scuttle, 2 Door Skins, 2 Door Bottoms, and Boot Floor. The rest was patch-repaired- Bulk-head, Floor, Qurter panels etc. Once the body was sorted, we spent hour after hour preparing it for paint.

e-mail from Tom and Jon

Date:

August 2007

Details:

The paint-job was done by the Paint shop, where Tom Works. Once the paint was done, it was time to put the car back together. Tom rebuilt the Standard 998 engine, including re-ground Crank, New Pistons, Cam Kit, Block Hone, Gear-Box Bearing and seal kit, carb rebuild kit, clutch kit, new exhaust, and a reconditioned head.

We saved all of the next year, for the National Mini Cooper Day, where we bought all new standard spec suspension and brake parts, including shockers, rubber cones, trumpets, lower arms, Discs and Pads, master and slave cylinders, Drums, and Full Drum Back-plate assemblys.

After this, we saved up for all new exterior and interior items. Everything was replaced, except seats and door cards, as these were in very good condtion.

Saturday 30th June 2007. The Mini was Finished. Tom had passed his driving test 2 weeks before this. The car was driven to Toms work on Trade-Plates, for an M.O.T. It passed the M.O.T, with no advisories, than it was taxed and insured the same day!

We drove 200 miles up the country to run the engine in, which ran very well, considering it was re-built by a first year apprentice....

The car looks fab, and we are both pleased with the result. we both put exactly the same amount of money into the project- £1,650 each, but Jon still claims the car is his, as he put the extra purchase price of £25 in!

It has been to 2 shows so far, and we have been offered £6000 for the car. our reply was- 'I'm sorry, but its Not For Sale!'

She will remove the spot lamps and the chrome arches. The interior is still original bar the carpets which will be replaced with grey ones once the car is dry. A friend who worked at the museum then purchased it for his son on his 18th birthday. After a few weeks his son decided it was too small for him and wished to sell it.

This mini 25 has a letter from the Patrick Collection confirming that it had remained a museum vehicle until February 1990.

On the side back window there is a Patrick Collection logo. In the pocket of the front seat are 8 boxes of matches with the 25 logo printed on the front with 1959-1984 under it, and on the back printed 'with the compliments of Austin Rover'.

The car has been in regular use since 1990 and kept in excellent condition in a garage. It is only driven short distances locally and the mileage to date is only 31,400.

This is john and lyns mini 25 mini-me. They bought her 3x years ago from a man who owned her for 16years. It was in a very bad state indeed. Many people would have scrapped it on sight. It needed all new front panels, front floors, sills door skins rear vallence, boot floor repairs, inner sill repairs, scuttle repairs, flitch panels, door bottoms, the list is endless. As you can see she is now looking fine. They use her all summer and put her away for the winter months. As you can see she is a A plated car which we understand there is not many like this at all most are B plated.

For years Dave used to help his friend out with his canal boat down at our local marina and he kept seeing this small silver car peeking out from under its blue tarpaulin. The Dad of Dave's mate that he was helping left the car under the tarpaulin as he had no time for so it was left standing for 3-4 years. Dave ripped this tatty blue tarp of this car to find a decent little car hiding amongst all the moss an tree leaves an BUGS! Trying to start it after a couple hours of coaxing an pleading an swearing with the little car she started breathing an it sounded gooood with a very little valve tappet noise, clutch worked although this identified the problem that the brakes had indeed seized hence she wouldnt budge so work is still needed but managed to sort it all out an now she sits on my drive in the current state you see you the pictures. This is an ongoing project.

Wilhelm purchased a blue Mini 1000HL on Dec. 2009 (photo - purchase Dec 2009). Wilhelm only wanted a classic Mini for restoration but then he realized, from the Chassis number and on the seats that it must be a Mini25. Therefore Wilhelm started his Mini25 restoration, he also bought an original steering wheel, original interior trims and better Mini25 seats on the second hand market but now after 6 month the Mini looks like a new car. Wilhelm is very proud on his car and for the help his brother Robert gave him.

Ben decided in july 2008 that he wanted to restore his mini 25 (B423 GPN). He ended up selling it on 2 months later to his cousin because he moving home and had nowhere to put it. Ben has now bought it back from his cousin, the mini 25 was in his garage in the same state as it was when he bought it. His garage roof had collapsed causing the garage door to bust so it was sitting there totally exposed and being in a block of garages there was risk of it being vandalised or stolen. Ben has begun a total nut and bolt restoration to finally bring it back to the standard it deserves.

Patrick lives in the Netherlands. This is the story of his Mini 25. Patrick bought the Mini 25 almost 2 month's ago. It's bought from a Mini dealer in The Netherlands with the name: Ben van leeuwen Mini Center, as in the name it is a Mini and MINI only dealer. Patricks Mini had only 32.565 KM on the clock when he bought it. The mini had been in a garage for 21 years as the former owner died and his wife never could sell the car because her husband loved the car. After a long time standing still, she sold the car to Ben van Leeuwen in the year 2011. The car had all the original parts when Patrick bought her, Patrick only bought the alloy wheels to use in the summer. Patrick will use the steel original wheels without the plastic ( which Patrick does have but want to keep safe and tidy) for winter time, these wheels have Pirellis on them. The car has never been crashed or been repainted, even all the windows are the original's. The car has been bought new in january 1985, the second owner is Mini center Ben van Leeuwen and Patrick is now the third owner. Since Patrick bought the car on the second of october this year we have done some 1000 KM with no real problems. Only had to go back for re-adjusting the carb, and last week they replaced the radiator with a new one. Not the stock version but one from the 1.3 engine, also changed the water pump and a smaller pully. The engine went pretty warm on the freeway, and was leaking cooling liquid. Patrick is planning to join the Dutch Mini Rally in the year 2013, so want to be sure that the engine will stay cool all the way. The only things that are not standard are now the new radiator, waterpump, backseat safety belts in grey ( pitty, not in red..........not yet!! ), battery and some waterhoses. All the rest is standard.

Dom was told that the original owner passed away in 1991. The car was then put in a garage and sat there until quite recently. It has 73k KMs. It appears to have be repainted at some point, and unfortunately the decals were removed. However, the interior still looks great! Overall the car is in very good condition. It has been a very fun car and Dom is glad to own such a neat car.
